Coaching in general is an industry that has grown exponentially the last decade or so. Career coaching is not regulated in any way and there are myriads of self appointed career coached out there. Professional career coaching isn’t for everyone. As an internship / job seeker, if you do decide career coaching is a path you’d like to explore, then do your homework and think through what type of support you’re looking for. The determining question here is really:

Do you know what you want to do, how to get there, and in which time frame?

If so, do it yourself. If you are unsure about what career direction to take, if you have little idea of how to get somewhere – explore what we can do for you and get in touch with us. Here is a checklist of items for your due-diligence.

The right time to hire a career coach varies from person to person. Some people don’t realize they need a career coach until they find themselves struggling to get past initial interviews. Other people hire a coach the minute they realize they aren’t getting results from their cover letters, resumes, or networking. Still others know they need help from the initial stages of doing a self-assessment and putting a resume together. In general, though, it is far better to hire a career coach early in the process. The longer you wait, the more likely the situation is to escalate into a stressful, emotionally charged, or even desperate situation.

From an applicant’s perspective, each application is associated with efforts, costs, and additional overhead. Too many applications is an expensive affair, while too few applications is risky. Contextual Advisory™ is our proprietary methodology based on best practices derived from hundreds of client engagements. This methodology ensures a close fit between applicants’ profile and the employers’ expectations. Through our proprietary tools, such as Contextual Maps, Profile Builder, Skill Matrix, Atlas, Keyword Miner, Atlas, Persona Canvas, and Visage, we analyse each and every aspect of an applicant package to ensure that the documents are both, machine and human-friendly. On top of these sophisticated tools, we use our experience as hiring managers to advise candidates on the empirical factors of the recruitment process. Furthermore, we aggregate job market data and job market performance data on a weekly and monthly basis respectively. Using this data, we derive insights that we share with our clients to give them a competitive edge. We regularly publish these insights on our social media channels and share our reports with our partner organisations.

INTRVU is run by graduates of elite European institutions with decades of professional experience in Europe. We leverage our backgrounds to deliver client success. Most organisations have formally-defined sets of value drivers – competencies, skills, and behaviours – that guide how recruitment happens across a complex job market ecosystem. These value drivers anchor our holistic, integrative approach, which uses evidence-based techniques to develop practical solutions to the challenges our clients face during the internship / job search process. During our advisory sessions, we focus on a clearly-defined value driver that fits into the larger goal. Coupled with our advisory approach, we focus on, not only the short-term priority of landing an offer, but also the strategic career aspects that have a farther reaching impact. By carefully listening to our clients and asking probing, and sometimes difficult, questions, we examine your clients’ assumptions and desired goals. Then, we examine all the parameters of our clients’ needs. Informed by all this information, we deliver the appropriate support to our clients. Focussing on value drivers permits us to sequence and prioritise our workload during the advisory process to reduce the time to deliver value, and then track progress based on value delivered rather than via time and resources expended.

The vast majority of job seekers submit the same application packages based on CV and Cover Letter templates (e.g. Europass) they downloaded off the Internet. This ‘spray-and-pray’ approach may eventually land you an interview. However, recruiters that review hundreds of applications a day may not easily recall your application at the end of the day. The job market is getting competitive each passing day and any job opening attracts hundreds, if not thousands of job applications. To manage this deluge of candidate applications, most companies use an Applicant Tracking System, which serves as a filter before a human reviewer gets to pick up your application. Correspondingly, you application should be both, machine and human-friendly. At INTRVU, we equip our clients with tools, frameworks, and methodologies that not only help structure their application content, but also exude professionalism and aesthetics for human reviewers. Furthermore, we review each application document through the eyes of a hiring manager and customise each each component of the application to make our clients stand out in the competitive admissions landscape. Such diligence ensures application success, as our track record can vouchsafe.

Showcase your unique value proposition to potential employers.

Your CV is one of the most important documents in your application. The best resumes are those that are both ATS-friendly and pleasing to the human eye. The two are not mutually exclusive, however. ATS-friendly resumes are formatted much more simply, while human-reader resumes may contain graphic elements that make the document easier to read and more appealing to the hiring manager. Each CV we author is uniquely designed for our clients based on their specific background, accomplishments and career goals. Whatever your profession, we can help you showcase your talent to prospective employers and tackle ATS.

Articulate your unique value proposition through a compelling storyline.

A targeted cover letter is a strategic marketing collateral. Many employers and recruiters read the cover letter first. Your cover letter is the best way to introduce yourself, what you have to offer, and why you want the job, but you have an extremely limited amount of time to do all of those things. Considering these constraints, writing a killer cover letter is not a simple task. A poorly written cover letter demonstrates sloppiness and disqualifies an otherwise compelling application.

Research-driven approach to building your candidate profile.

Create your personas to develop your application strategy and execute effective job application campaigns. A persona is based on market research and a mix of qualitative and quantitative parameters that help answer the key questions you will encounter during your application journey and hiring process. Applicant personas allow you to target the right audience with the right message at the right time in a meaningful way.

Burnish your brand and your potential as a prospective employee.

LinkedIn is utilized by recruiters and hiring managers in a number of different ways. In some cases, it’s used to cross-reference information from a candidate’s CV / Resume. In other cases, it’s utilized as a direct recruiting source. Having a complete LinkedIn profile will only serve to enhance your job search. With a targeted LinkedIn profile, you’ll go far beyond the capabilities of just copying and pasting your CV onto your profile.

Present and articulate like a true professional.

Getting an interview is an achievement in itself. Only a small proportion of applicants – about 10% – are selected for interview. So, you have already made a positive impression to get to this stage. But, have you ever wondered why you can get the interview, but not the job? Qualifications will often land the interview, but executing a successful interview requires more than just possessing the right skills. >ou have only one chance to make a good first impression during your interview. Interview skills is one area where a little training can go a long way throughout your career. Having some solid interview techniques and skills can make all the difference between you getting what you want or you being disappointed because once again, the interview didn’t go as well as you wanted it to.

Present a baselined version of your professional life.

A short profile has become increasingly important as most of us suffer from information fatigue. A short profile speaks much more about your reputation, attributes, tone, and makeup. Written with without the rigid structure of a CV, you short profile is much more readable and conversational; tt presents you in a disarming format and allows you to convey more and different information than you could do in a CV. A short profile is the hottest thing in the recruitment landscape today; a short profile is used to convey your background in a crisp narrative format and could make a crucial difference and lead to a successful application.
